Hôtel du Palais, a legendary place full of history

Hôtel du Palais, a legendary place full of history

A listed historic monument since 1993, this iconic hotel is the only imperial residence on the Atlantic coast and enjoys breath-taking ocean views.

Directly facing the ocean, the Hotel du Palais embodies the luxury and splendour of Biarritz: the 'Queen of beaches and the beach of kings'.

Formerly called 'Villa Eugénie', this palace hotel, built by Napoleon III for his wife, Eugénie de Montijo, is a historic monument where the dance steps of the great feasts given by the imperial couple still resound. Other prominent visitors have given their names to the hotel suites, with Ernest Hemingway, actress Romy Schneider, and Frank Sinatra among them.

The Second Empire decoration in the rooms has been lovingly preserved, calling to mind the pomp and refinement of that period by focusing on noble materials such as Carrara marble and Italian glass mosaic. Most rooms offer views of the Grande Plage, the majestic Biarritz lighthouse and the domes of the Orthodox church. The hotel is also home to fine dining restaurant La Rotonde. Seafood lovers will also appreciate Le Sunset and its sunny poolside terrace. The Guerlain Spa and the Leonor Greyl hair salon offer standout services.
